You haven't lived until you have taken a joy ride in China. Except this ride held no joy. We had a different driver yesterday when we went to the police station. Zachary and I immediately noticed it was a different guy, different van. On the ride we all just sat quietly and had own thoughts. As soon as we got back to the hotel Zachary said he didn't like that driver and talked about the crazy things he did. I thought he was a very aggressive driver and it didn't seem to matter who was in his way he was going. Dallas didn't realize it was a different driver even though he looked nothing like our previous driver and the van was a different color. Dallas was wondering why all of sudden he was driving like he was angry. We flew through the streets, riding on the wrong side of the road, there were many near misses. No doubt driving in China is crazy but this was beyond crazy. We were very thankful to arrive back to the hotel.
Lily, our guide and facilitator was telling us Sunday that there are few accidents in China. I guess they all understand each other's craziness. We did see two yesterday. She said that kids can get their license at age 18 but that most parents do not want their kids to because of the busy streets in the city. She said that if you can drive in Nanchang you can drive anywhere. There are 5 million people in the city. Not only do you have to deal with other cars but also with lots of bikes, scooters, and people.
I've heard that before! I'm so not looking foward to that part of our travel. I'm scared even when my husband drives LOL!
